HWANGE is set to hold the first fashion designer show to promote local and upcoming designers to grow the clothing sector. The event will see designers from around the country converging to showcase their designs and provide a platform for young designers to meet and share ideas with established players in the sector.

In an interview, one of the organisers Yeukai Mapfumo, said they wanted to promote local designers and work towards the revival of the entire clothing sector.

“The main aim of the designer show is to give our local designers a platform to display their talent and work to their potential customers,” she said.

She said it is the first time for Hwange to hold such an event and this will help the local youths to get involved in different projects to sustain themselves.

“We are holding this event for the first time we want our youths who have a passion for fashion designing to meet established designers who can help them to start their own projects and businesses,” she said.

Mapfumo said many young people had talent but they lacked training and resources, thus this event will give them an opportunity to interact with seasoned designers who can impart different skills to them.

“We have many young people who are talented in our community and that is why we want to expose them to the right people,” said Mapfumo.

She said the show would focus on promoting the Buy Zimbabwe initiative to ensure growth and increased productivity in the clothing sector.

Mapfumo said they had invited local designers who were going to participate during the show.
“We have invited local designers such as Tripple L, Clix clothing, Rebelious clothing, Listo and Shadow, among others who are going to participate in the event,” she  said.

The event is set for February 15 at Eldorado Rock Park in Hwange and everyone is welcome to participate and support local designers.
