British Embassy hold wheel-chair tennis tourney

Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Deborah Bronnert, said: “The United Kingdom want to use the Paralympic Games to bring about a change in the way people think, feel and behave towards disability and disability sport. “We want to use the Paralympic Games to encourage more disabled people into sport at the grassroots level — not only to help find the next generation of Paralympians but also to demonstrate how sport can enrich the lives of disabled people and that their disability need not be a barrier. By publicising events such as this tennis tournament, and by working with the Zimbabwe Paralympic Committee, we can also help promote participation in disability sport in Zimbabwe”
The main objectives of the tournament were to:
l Promote awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games that begin on the 29th of August to the 9th of September.
l Highlight Britain’s support of disability sportsmanship in Zimbabwe.
l Mark the milestone of 200 days to go until the start of the Paralympic Games.
The winners were as follows:
1 Singles Winner: Shepherd Banda Runner up: Brian Mafuvise 2 Doubles winners: Munyaradzi Mamombe and Brian Mafuvise Runner ups: Gino Gary Vundla and Shepherd Banda 3 Hearing Impaired Singles winner: Anesu Zhira Runner up: Patricia Dube — British Embassy.
