ALTHOUGH their marriage did not end well, with their divorce spilling into the FIFA corridors, it looks like the Brazilian coach Baltemar Brito still loves the Bulawayo football giants Highlanders.
Brito left Bosso in December 2023, but their separation turned sour as the Brazilian dragged Highlanders to FIFA, after they failed to settle a $26 500 debt.
As a result, FIFA banned Highlanders from the transfer market until the amount was paid.
That debt was settled early this week thanks to some timely intervention by Harare businessman Wicknell Chivhayo.
Bosso can now register new players while Brito is also now a happy and relieved man.
Highlanders have confirmed the lifting of the FIFA transfer ban that was imposed last month.
The Brazilian is enjoying the dollars in Portugal, awaiting fresh offers, but he still has a special place in his heart for Bosso.
He still misses the Bulawayo giants and wishes them all the best in this year’s championship race.
Bosso, who are still searching for their first league championship since 2006, face GreenFuel at the GreenFuel Arena in Chipinge today.
“I just want to thank the management and wish them a good championship.
“Hugs to all the Bosso people,” Brito told Zimpapers Sports Hub from Portugal.
“What can I say, uh, I like Zimbabwean people, the culture and the good things.
“I miss the carnival atmosphere at Barbourfieds, of course I miss a lot of other things.”
Brito is best remembered for leading Highlanders to a 19-game unbeaten run that stretched for 160 days in 2023.
Unfortunately, Bosso could not lay their hands on the championship trophy, finishing fifth and 11 points behind champions Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Last season, Highlanders finished sixth and 18 points behind champions Simba Bhora.
Highlanders began their latest league campaign with a 0-1 loss against MWOS before bouncing back with a 4-0 victory over Kwekwe United at BF last weekend.
Today, they face GreenFuel who are yet to lose a league game since September 2023 when the GreenFuel Arena was homologated for Premier Soccer League matches.
Highlanders and GreenFuel have met four times in the league.
Three games ended with an identical 1-1 stalemate before Bosso hammered Boys Dze Nharo 4-0 at BF in November last year.
GreenFuel started their campaign with a 1-1 home draw against CAPS United.
They lost 0-1 against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab last weekend.
Brito, who also coached the Warriors in their opening two World Cup qualifiers,will be following from Portugal.
The Brazilian says he still follows football events in Zimbabwe with keen interest.
Brito arrived in Zimbabwe in June 2023, when he was appointed Highlanders coach, replacing Mandla Mpofu.
He left Bosso on December 4, 2023, by mutual separation.
But Bosso have now been settled his outstanding dues.
