Brito wants to end road nightmare

HIGHLANDERS will be hoping to break the 31-match win-less league run outside Bulawayo when they take on Herentals at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The Students have never beaten Bosso since their promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in 2018.

Tomorrow is their sixth meeting.

Bosso coach, Baltermar Brito, is confident his side will finally break the duck.

He welcomes central defender, Mbongeni Ndlovu, who limped off in the 0-0 draw against Tenax, the trio of Ray Lunga, Toto Banda and Archiford Faira, who were injured, as well as striker Stanley Ngala, who was suspended.

Brito is aware of Highlanders’ POOR record on the road, as well as the threat posed by Herentals.

“This (31-match win-less streak out of Bulawayo) is a statistic, a reference we have, but in Porto we had one motto, ‘Even after hard times, the day starts again’.

“Even after a dark night, the day starts. It’s a statistic, and we’re confident we will break it soon.

“We’ve worked hard in the last two weeks to correct some details.

“We know that Herentals are not going to wait for us to attack, but they will also come at us. “They are a team that plays the ball, and I’m sure the fans, and the rest of the country, will enjoy the show.

“We’re going there for maximum points.”

Highlanders’ last league win outside Bulawayo was on July 22, 2018, when they edged Triangle United 1-0 at Gibbo.

This season Bosso have played nine matches outside Bulawayo, losing four encounters to Black Rhinos (2-0), Manica Diamonds (1-0), Whawha (2-1) and FC Platinum (3-0) via the boardroom.

Bsso have also drawn five matches away from the City of Kings – Tenax (0-0), CAPS United (1-1), Triangle United (0-0), ZPC Kariba (0-0) and Ngezi (1-1).

This means from a possible 27 points, Bosso have only managed five, with Brito getting one, as he lost 2-1 to Whawha and drew 1-1 against Ngezi.
