VETERAN broadcaster, Cephas Dlamini has died. He was 82.
Dlamini passed away on Tuesday at Corporate 24 Medical Centre where he had been admitted on Sunday.
Dlamini had more than two decades experience in the broadcasting industry as he joined the then Rhodesia Broadcasting Corporation in 1975 as a producer/presenter and retired in 1998.
His son, Mnqobi confirmed his death adding he will be buried tomorrow at Kensington Cemetery.
Dlamini joined ZBC from the teaching profession and was heavily involved at the then Mthwakazi Radio at Montrose Studios.
He was a producer/presenter of various programmes that included Izihlahla Ziyimpilo and Ezivela Ezigodini. He also anchored ukukubingelelana and Inhlupho zalamuhla
Dlamini worked with several broadcaster that include the late Maplot Jubane, Inglam Nyathi, Ezra Sibanda, Nonceba Mnkandla, Harry Nleya and Luke Mkandla among others.
Luke Mnkandla said he was saddened by Dlamini’s passing on, saying he played an immense role in radio despite joining the profession later in his life.
“He came from teaching to join us at Radio Mthwakazi and he was a quiet and reserved man who diligently went about his work.
“Dlamini was passionate about his job and very good with interacting with people and interviewing them.
“He presented several programmes that include iSqokoqela sanamuhla, Ezamasiko, Ezasemakhaya and also did a book review programme where he would invite poets to come and talk about their work,” he said.
Mnkandla said Dlamini’s loss is a great loss to the industry.
Dlamini attended Ngwenya Misson for secondary education after which he trained as a teacher at Mtshabezi Mission.
He worked as a teacher in various schools including Gampu Primary and St Columbus and left teaching to join the then RBC in 1975.
Dlamini worked there as a producer presenter until he retired in 1998.
He is survived by 6 children and 14 grandchildren
Mourners are gathered at number 14 Paul Street in Kensington.
