JOHANNESBURG. — South Africa coach Hugo Broos has trimmed his squad to face Zimbabwe and Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers next month.
Coach Broos named a 31-man squad last week that he has now reduced to 23.
This is the squad he will take to Zimbabwe and play Ghana at home.
South Africa play Zimbabwe on September 3 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare and Ghana at FNB Stadium on September 6, 2021.
The two matches kick off at 3pm and 6pm.
Broos has kept faith in three goalkeepers of Supersport’s Ronwen Williams, Veli Mothwa (Amazulu) and Bruce Bvuma (Kaizer Chiefs).
In defence, Broos has recalled Portugal-based Thibang Phete from Belenenses and the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Thabani Dube and Sibusiso Mabiliso while in the midfield, Sekhukhune FC rising star, Yusuf Maart and TS Galaxy’s Ethan Brooks make the final cut.
Up front, the Bafana Bafana coach has kept faith in Thabiso Kutumela (Mamelodi Sundowns), Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Maritzburg United), Gift Links (Aarhus GF, Denmark), Evidence Makgopa (Baroka FC), Victor Letsoalo (Bloemfontein Celtics), Percy Tau (Brighton & Hove Albion, England) and Luther Singh (FC Copenhagen, Denmark).
