A 20-year-old man from Ushewokunze in Harare appeared in court yesterday for allegedly impregnating his sister aged 13.
The accused yesterday appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka charged with rape.
He was remanded in custody to January 12 for trial commencement.
Prosecuting, Mr Anesu Chirenje alleged that sometime in April this year, at around 7am, the complainant’s parents left home as usual going to work.
While the complainant was sweeping the kitchen, her brother was sleeping in his bedroom and he called her to his room.
The court heard that initially, the complainant refused but then decided to go to her brother’s room after he kept calling her.
On her way she met her brother in the dining room who grabbed her, closed her mouth and dragged her to his bedroom where he raped her.
After the act, the accused person threatened to kill his sister if she ever disclosed the matter to anybody.
The matter came to light on November 22, when the complainant’s mother discovered that she was pregnant.
Upon interrogation, she then revealed what had transpired.
The parents then filed a report with the police that led to the arrest of the accused person.
