A HARARE man says he is being dragged to court because he is unhappy his sister keeps too many cats at their home.
Nigel Shamu was accused by his sister Rumbidzo, who is disabled, of abusing her.
She was seeking a protection order at the Harare Civil Court.
However, Nigel claimed the big issue between the two was related to her cats.
“I love her and I will never do such things to her because I do her laundry and cater for all her needs.
“I never chased her away from home, insulted, assaulted or harassed her.
“We are here because of her kittens and queen cats in the house that are all over in the cupboards and couches, and it’s disgusting.”
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira asked Rumbidzo why she kept so many pets given her condition.
She said she exchanged them for chickens in the rural areas.
Rumbidzo claimed Nigel was disturbing her peace.
She said he was a drunkard and whenever he was intoxicated, he became violent towards her.
“Sometime in April, he chased me from home and I sought refuge at a relative’s house in Domboshava.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) he insulted me using obscene language because I am disabled.”
She said on January 30, he woke up and danced naked in the passage.
Magistrate Mashavira granted Rumbidzo the peace order and advised Nigel to approach the SPCA if the cats were making his life miserable.
