A Gokwe man had an affair with his blood sister for more than two years until she got pregnant.
Blessing Makumire (23) and Linda (19) both of Copper Queen farm in Gokwe under Chief Chireya had an incestuous relationship behind their parentsa�� back for more than two years.
The affair was discovered recently after Linda fell pregnant.
Chief Chireya told B-Metro that the incident came to light when Blessing was caught by his parents trying to sell three cows to raise money to run away from his troubles.
a�?Blessing wanted to sell his parentsa�� three cows so that he could get the money and flee to neighbouring South Africa but his parents got wind. He was caught before carrying out his plan,a�? said Chief Chireya.
He was then asked why he wanted to flee from home and he confessed that he had got his sister pregnant and feared that he would be punished for his sins.
a�?He confessed that he had impregnated his sister and was therefore not prepared to face his parentsa�� wrath. The parents were shocked and at the same time disappointed by the childrena��s act. They reported the matter to the chief,a�? he added.
Chief Chireya then summoned the two.
a�?I summoned them to my traditional court. I ordered each one of them to pay three cows as a way of cleansing the community.A� Even the Bible condemns such behaviour and therefore a stiffer penalty is appropriate for such people.
In fact people who engage in incest should be chucked out of the community,a�? said A�A� A�Chief Chireya.
Since wrong had already been done, someone had to make sure the children are taken care of.
a�?I ordered the Makumire family to take care of the child because as a community we do not believe in abortion because it is as bad as murder,a�? he added.
