A MARANGE man has broken ranks with his brother and nephew as they accuse him of killing his own son for ritual purposes.

Wellington Chadambuka bared it all at the Mutare Civil Court last week on Friday when he appeared before Mr Xavier Chipato, pleading with the court to grant him a protection order against his brother, Julius Chadambuka and his nephew, Udzirwai Chadambuka.

He was also asking for the court’s intervention to stop his relatives from defaming him and his family.

Wellington said he does not take lightly allegations that he possesses goblins and was the source of all misfortunes bedevilling the Chadambuka family.

“I cannot stand what they are doing to my family. Your Worship, they continue to tarnish my name and character by telling people that I possess goblins. They allege that I am the one killing people in the family, which is not true,” he said.

Wellington said following the recent death of his son, Julius and Udzirwai assaulted his wife, accusing her of feasting on the corpse.

“I had gone to get my son’s burial order when they attacked my wife, accusing her of killing her own son.

“When I confronted them, they accused me of conniving with my wife to kill our child. They said I killed my child so that l could feast on his corpse.

“Your Worship, it does not make sense because there is no reason for me to kill my own child. I loved him so much,” he explained.

Wellington also said Udzirwai and Julius are in the habit of attacking him with axes and machetes while demanding that he surrenders his alleged goblins for them to be burnt.

“On a daily basis, Udzirwai or Julius stand on the path that leads to my homestead armed with an axe, shouting that my family should leave the village. Because of this, we are now prisoners at our home. We cannot leave and visitors are also afraid to visit our homestead. We are now living in fear because we do not know what action they will take against us,” said Wellington.

He said last week, Udzirwai approached him as he was in his garden. He attacked him with a machete and destroyed his crops.

“After the garden incident, I sneaked out and made a police report. The police advised me to apply for a protection order at this court. After the pair were served with the court summons, they told the police officers that they would not attend the court session,” he said.

True to their word, Udzirwai and Julius were in default during the session.

Mr Chipato granted a five-year protection order in Wellington’s favour.

The order bars Julius and his son from assaulting, insulting, harassing, threatening and disturbing Wellington’s peace.
