Brothers team up, kill fellow villager

TWO Gokwe brothers have been arrested for allegedly teaming up and fatally assaulting a fellow villager whose ox had strayed into one of the brothers’ cotton field. Police spokesperson for Midlands province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred in Ganya Village under Chief Mkoka last Saturday at about 3pm.
“The allegations are that on the fateful day, the now deceased Patrick Dube (34) was herding cattle in the village when one of his oxen strayed into one of the accused, Innocent Muchedhe (29)’s cotton field,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Muchedhe who was picking cotton in the same field then confronted Dube over the stray beast.
“A misunderstanding between Muchedhe and Dube arose before it degenerated into a fist fight. Muchedhe was overpowered and called his brother, Tichaona Muchedhe (32). The two brothers then used logs to attack Dube. Tichaona Muchedhe used the log to strike Dube on the head resulting in him falling to the ground,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said the two brothers then left Dube lying unconscious on the ground and fled.
“Dube later died on the spot and his body was discovered by fellow villagers who then reported the matter to the police.
Police attended to the scene and Dube’s body was taken to Gokwe District Hospital mortuary,” he said.
