THE pressure is mounting on both Bulawayo Chiefs and FC Platinum as the two sides face each other this afternoon in a crucial Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) clash, with neither side able to afford another slip-up in a season entering its decisive phase.

Chiefs will return home nursing bruised egos after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to former champions Simba Bhora, while FC Platinum also have questions to answer following their frustrating 1-1 home draw against Highlanders at Mandava Stadium.

For Bulawayo Chiefs, the defeat to Simba Bhora exposed familiar problems in both attack and defence. The Ninjas have struggled for consistency throughout the campaign and know that another defeat could further drag them into an uncomfortable position on the table.

FC Platinum, meanwhile, remain one of the league’s most difficult teams to beat, but their inability to convert draws into victories has severely dented their title ambitions. The Zvishavane side have remarkably registered 13 draws from their 22 league matches, a statistic that highlights both their resilience and lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

Coach Joel Luphahla will be demanding more urgency from his players, especially in the final third where missed opportunities have become a recurring theme.

The encounter promises to be a fascinating tactical battle, with Bulawayo Chiefs expected to attack from the onset in front of their home supporters, while FC Platinum will rely on their disciplined structure and experience to frustrate the hosts.

Elsewhere, confidence is flowing through the Chicken Inn camp following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Manica Diamonds last weekend.

The Gamecocks travel to the Heart Stadium to face newly promoted FC Hunters, a side eager to establish themselves in the top flight despite enduring an inconsistent maiden campaign.

Chicken Inn appear to have rediscovered their fighting spirit, with coach Tonderayi Ndiraya beginning to get the desired response from his players. Their late winner against Manica Diamonds could prove to be a turning point in their season as belief continues to grow within the squad.

However, FC Hunters will be desperate to make home advantage count and claim a statement victory against one of the league’s established sides.
