President Mnangagwa has described the pipeline capacity expansion project, whose foundation stone was laid today in Mozambique, as timely and significant for consolidating bilateral relations between Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and the rest of the SADC region
Speaking at the event to mark the commencement of construction of the Nhamatanda and Messica pumping stations in Nhamatanda, Sofala Province, the President said the project would strengthen regional energy cooperation.
“Today’s laying of this first stone for the Nhamatanda and Messica pumping platforms is a timely and significant milestone for both Mozambique and Zimbabwe, as well as the SADC region as a whole,” said President Mnangagwa.
“It is therefore a privilege that we launch this high-impact infrastructure project together. This reflects our unbreakable bonds and the enduring strength of the solidarity and economic cooperation between our two Republics.
He said the project will go a long way in improving the quality of life for ordinary persons in the two countries.
“This event places a new layer on the foundations set by our forebears. We must see accelerated development, modernisation, industrialisation and an improved quality of life for our people. Zimbabwe is ready to play its part,” he said.
Mozambican President Daniel Chapo said Harare and Maputo ought to take advantage of their geographical location and warm bilateral relations to develop their economies.
“We need to transform our infrastructure to improve the lives of our people. When Mozambique grows, Zimbabwe must benefit; even when Zimbabwe develops, Mozambique must benefit as well,” said President Chapo.
The event was attended by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, Energy and Power Development Minister July Moyo, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, Deputy Chief Secretary responsible for
Presidential Communications, Mr George Charamba and senior Government officials from both countries.
