AFTER a bruising weekend defeat to MWOS, former champions Chicken Inn will tomorrow return to familiar territory with a potentially defining Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium.
The Gamecocks will be eager to respond after stumbling against an energetic MWOS side, a result that exposed some of the inconsistencies that have crept into their campaign. Playing at Barbourfields offers Tonderayi Ndiraya’s men an opportunity to reset in front of their home supporters, but they face a Simba Bhora side that has developed a reputation for grinding out results away from home.
“We are going to have another tough fixture against Simba Bhora,” said Ndiraya.
“This is a team that has been winning, it’s another tough one for us. We need to get something from that game. They have experience and quality in their team.”
Simba Bhora, a club that Ndiraya interestingly coached and clinched the league championship with it two years ago, arrive in Bulawayo carrying the confidence of champions. Since their title-winning campaign, the Shamva-based outfit has continued to show defensive discipline and tactical maturity, qualities that have made them one of the league’s most difficult sides to break down.
Recent meetings between the two clubs suggest another tightly contested affair.
The head-to-head record is evenly balanced, with both teams claiming three wins apiece in their last six league encounters.
Notably, there has not been a draw between them in those matches, underlining how fine the margins have been whenever they meet.
Chicken Inn will look to their experienced core to provide a response after the MWOS setback, especially in attack where efficiency in front of goal could prove decisive.
Under the guidance of Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu, Simba Bhora, meanwhile, are likely to lean on their structured defensive approach and quick transitions, an approach that has troubled Bulawayo sides before, including victories over Highlanders in recent visits to Barbourfields.
With both teams still chasing momentum early in the season, tomorrow’s encounter could have significance beyond just three points. For Chicken Inn, it is a chance to show resilience after disappointment. For Simba Bhora, it is another opportunity to reinforce their credentials as genuine title contenders once again.
And with pride, points and momentum all on the line, Barbourfields Stadium, could be set for another tense midweek battle under the Bulawayo lights.
