A local private medical facility has pledged to empower Mavis Mada, the Hwedza teen who was brutally assaulted by fellow villagers, by offering her an all-expenses paid for nurse aide training course.
The motive for the attack on the young girl remains unclear.
Six of her assailants, including five girls and a man, are now facing charges of aggravated indecent assault, cyberbullying and assault.
In a statement, Mabvuku-based Pacific 24hr Hospital, said the three-month training course will include both theoretical and practical training, with full funding.
“Pacific 24hr Hospital is extending our gesture to offer her a three-month full training on nurse aid course.
“This course has both theory and practical attachment for three months. Pacific 24hr Hospital is going to fund the full bill of the training, full uniform sets and also fund food and accommodation throughout the 90 days of training. This training gesture is to empower the girl child, Mavis, so that she becomes self-sufficient.”
A medical examination conducted by the hospital revealed that Mavis sustained severe bruises and scars on her body but X-rays on her chest, legs and pelvis showed no fractures.
“Her father is late and her mother is a house maid. Mavis stays with her grandmother in the rural areas,” reads the hospital’s statement in part.
The hospital also appealed to the corporate world to support Mavis by making donations through the Girl Child Network in Harare or directly to her.
Vimbai Mike (19) and Punish Mazhangazha (22) and four other teenagers have been arrested in connection with assaulting Mavis.
They appeared before a Marondera Magistrate last week facing aggravated indecent assault, cyberbullying and assault charges.
