In a statement last night, the Ministry of Finance said any inconvenience caused by the deferment of the national budget is regretted.
“The GPA principals met today (yesterday), Monday 21 November 2011, at 1500 hours and due to various commitments on their part, the presentation of the 2012 National Budget was deferred from Tuesday 22
November to Thursday 24 November 2011, in Parliament at 1415 hours,” said the Finance Ministry.
The deferment of the national budget comes barely after a week it was postponed from Thursday last week to today.
Finance Minister Tendai Biti was expected to present the budget with the large chunk of the resources expected to go towards civil servants’ salaries.
According to a pre-budget strategy paper, which the Government came up with in August, the Finance Minister was expected to present a $3,4 billion budget.
Last year, Minister Biti unveiled a $2,7 billion budget for 2011, which was funded solely from internal resources after promised aid in previous budgets failed to materialise.
