Budiriro: Council delays release of funds for sewer recovery efforts

Remember DeketekeMunicipal Correspondent

Harare City Council is yet to release funds required to hire a honey sucker to drain a sewer line where authorities suspect more bodies could be trapped in Budiriro, it has been established.

Information obtained this morning indicates that efforts to pump out sewage at the site have stalled due to a lack of funding, with council officials reportedly indicating that no money had been availed for the exercise.

It also emerged that the local authority does not own a honey sucker, forcing it to seek private services for the operation.

Sources said a meeting involving the Mayor and Town Clerk is expected to be held to deliberate on the matter and determine the way forward, including the possible release of funds and a formal council position on the incident.

The delay has raised concerns as investigations and recovery efforts remain hampered by the inability to access the affected sewer line.
