South Africa-based Zimbabwean reggae artist Buffalo Souljah launched his long-awaited album Motherland with an intimate event on Tuesday night at Room 130 in Sandton, Gauteng.
Born Thabani Ndlovu, Buffalo Souljah is no stranger to the spotlight. With a career that boasts 10 wins across prestigious awards including the Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, Soundcity Music Awards and Zimdancehall Awards, the musician has also been nominated for major accolades including the AFRIMMAsAfrimmas and Irawma Awards.
With the release of Motherland, the seasoned artist returns with a powerful sonic tribute to Africa and its place on the global music stage.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Buffalo Souljah said the album was heavily inspired by the wave of African music dominating the international scene.
“We all can witness what amapiano and Afrobeats are doing around the world, and that means the music is back to its rightful owners as Africans,” he said.
Motherland is a genre-fusing body of work, blending elements of Afrotec, Afrobeats, reggae and amapiano, reflecting the diverse soundscape of modern African music.
“I draw my inspiration from 2Pac, Lucky Dube and Bob Marley,” he said.
“I’m happy with the turnout at the launch, and I’m grateful to finally share the project. My music is available on all digital platforms.”
The launch marks the end of a focused creative period for the artist, who stepped away from performing live to dedicate his time to the album’s production − Times.
