MUTARE Premiership outfit, Buffaloes, will pit its second-string side against Eastern Region Division One side Tanex in this year’s provincial Independence trophy at Sakubva Stadium tomorrow (Saturday).
The match, which is part of the entertainment activities lined up for the provincial Independence Day commemorations, will start at 2pm.
One of the organisers of the match — Simba “Mabhara” Wisdom — confirmed that Buffaloes B side will take on Tanex.
The former Buffaloes defender urged all residents of Mutare to throng Sakubva Stadium to witness the potentially-exciting duel that evokes memories of intriguing battles during the years both teams were still in Division One.
“I can confirm that we will have Buffaloes B side taking on Tanex as part of the entertainment during the Independence Day commemorations at Sakubva Stadium.
“There is no doubt that it is a potentially exciting encounter that will bring back memories of the great matches that both teams used to play when they were in Division One.
“It is also imperative to note that nothing is charged in terms of entrance fees for people to watch the match.
“In fact, this is one way of celebrating our country’s independence through sport and we hope the best team of the day will win,” said Wisdom, who is also the Zifa Eastern Region secretary.
In a separate interview, Tanex mentor, Ndega Matsika, said his team would be out to grab the silverware as they make final preparations ahead of the 2015 Eastern Region Division One season.
“I think this is quite an important match for us.
“We want to grab the trophy and make sure it boosts our confidence as we start the 2015 Eastern Region Division One season.
“Apart from the bragging rights, we are taking this match seriously because it is the last match that we will play before we start our 2015 season.
“Remember, we have our aims for the 2015 season and we can only achieve those aims if we have adequate preparations before the season starts,” said Matsika.
