Bukayo Saka set to miss Liverpool tie

BUKAYO Saka is set to be side-lined for up to four weeks — including for Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool this Sunday.

The 27-year-old hobbled off with an injury to his left hamstring in the Gunners’ 5-0 thrashing of Leeds United on Saturday, which Mikel Arteta initially feared was ‘significant’.

Those fears have now been allayed, however, with scans showing otherwise.

Captain Martin Odegaard also left the pitch earlier in the game, clutching his right shoulder which was in a sling when he left the stadium.

Arsenal have optimism that he hasn’t sustained a long-term injury, and is not yet ruled out of the Liverpool clash.

It follows the knee injury sustained by Kai Havertz in the opening weekend victory over Manchester United, with the German out for an unspecified period.

Saka was sidelined for three-and-a-half months last season after tearing his right hamstring in December, before returning on April 1, while Odegaard missed 12 matches with an ankle injury sustained in September.

Further assessments are required this coming week.

In the meantime, Arteta has a number of attacking options to plug the frontline holes. They include £67.5million signing Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and 15-year-old wonderkid Max Dowman. – Dailymail.co.uk/Zimpapers Sports Hub
