THREE clubs have pulled out of the Bulawayo Basketball League. Gweru-based Unicorns, ALCC and Nkulumane Stars have stopped participating in the league because of funding problems.“We have to nullify all the points and games played by those three teams, but I don’t think it will affect the title race or bring any changes in the league,” said BBA secretary-general Howard Phangwana.
Phangwana bemoaned the latest developments.
“It affects our games and the season in general, in the start of the season we had suggested a less demanding league for newcomers as a trial and error effort, but it was turned down.
“Now some of those teams are affected by administrative issues and financial constraints, which is now disturbing other teams,” he said.
Highlanders are on pole position to bag the title after beating Oilers 65-56 on Saturday.
“Highlanders and Southern Mavericks are now left fighting for the championship as Unicorns who are also in the title race has pulled out, the encounter between the two will be the title decider,” said Phangwana.
Miltonians and Oilers are the only remaining newcomers.
Phangwana praised the running in the women’s league and said they hope to extend the number of teams.
“All our teams in the women’s league are doing well even administrative wise, which is a relief we are hoping to add more teams, so that it becomes a big league,’ he said.
