Bulawayo beauties dazzle at Miss Zim

as it has once again managed to churn out many beauties who have managed to walk away with the coveted Miss Zimbabwe crown.

The recently held Miss Zimbabwe pageant is only but living proof that the city has a knack of producing crème de la crème on the beauty front.

Bulawayo’s Bongani Dlakama was crowned Miss Zimbabwe 2012 at the event held at Rainbow Towers’ Harare International Conference Centre on Friday.

Most of the girls who walked away with the crown were groomed at one of the city’s vibrant modelling house, Fingaz Modelling Academy, run by Sarah Mpofu.

In an interview, an official from Fingaz, Talent Mpofu, said Bulawayo has over the years produced top of the drawer models thanks to dedicated professionals who grill them.

“Bulawayo’s knack for producing nothing, but the best in modelling industry is a result of combined effort by dedicated professionals. The just-ended Miss Zimbabwe pageant is proof of the level of seriousness we put when grilling these girls,” Mpofu said.

He added that with this year’s pageant being graced by 30 contestants with Bulawayo’s three beauties making it to the top 12 finals, this says a lot about the city’s Queens.

“As part of our mentoring programmes, we always strive to churn out vibrant models not only with the looks, but with vast knowledge in the history of this country, a complementary factor to their versatile nature.

To have the confidence to walk the talk, and talk-the-walk beneath the spotlight is to many the hardest thing to do.

Dlakama’s physical attributes were complemented by her intellect, which saw her conversing well during the question and answer session.

In an interview, Dlakama said she was happy to bring the crown where it rightfully belonged considering her predecessors.

“I am happy to bring the crown where it belongs. Over the past years the crown had been housed in the city and after a year of it being in Harare, it feels good to finally have it back,” she said.

Dlakama takes over from Malaika Mashandu from Harare.

Records highlight a trend of numerous beauties hailing from the City of Queens pulling through tightly contested pageants.

Among these are Oslie Muringai-Matsikenyeri, Samantha Tshuma, Happiness Tshuma, Nadia Gori, Caroline Marufu, Lorraine Maphala, Sibusisiwe Dube and Eunah Patel.

It takes a confident woman to stay on the ramp and ooze with confidence, while the audience’s expectations would be high.

Clad in a blue glittery dress, which left the audience chanting “blues” the 23-year-old beauty queen dazzled a panel of judges with quick, but witty response to questions they asked her.

Bulawayo is also known as Blues.

The other finalist in both the top 12 and top five stood no chance against Dlakama as she dazzled the judges not only with her beauty, but her brains as well.

Hailing other contestants, Miss Zimbabwe thanked everybody who rallied behind her.

“The love and support I got from the audience was overwhelming. To all the other contestants, I want to urge them to keep up their will-power of empowered woman who stands tall no matter what people say,” she said.

Valerie Chingozo and Precious Dube also did their level best to fly the Metropolitan Province’s flag. Dube said as representatives, it was mandatory to bring something back home.

This proved to be true as the girls did the City of Kings and Queens proud by returning the crown home.

As the crown is once again in the City of Kings and Queens, it now remains on the up-and-coming models to emulate their predecessors.
