THE City of Bulawayo has sounded the alarm over the illegal sale of residential stands in Umganin Phase IV, warning desperate home seekers they could lose their hard-earned cash to unscrupulous developers.
In a statement, Town Clerk Christopher Dube named and shamed three companies accused of flouting their service agreements — Veluntina Investments, Cabin Lock Enterprises t/a Cabin Lock Construction, and Heavenview Properties.
Dube said the companies were tasked with servicing stands on Lots 1 to 4 in Umganin Phase IV using their own resources. Crucially, they were “precluded from selling the stands before the project is complete and commissioned.”
He added: “It has come to our attention that the abovementioned stands are being sold prior to the completion of servicing and official commissioning. This is a direct breach of the terms and conditions of the service agreements.”
The stern warning continued, with Dube making it clear that the council would not hesitate to act: “This serves as an official notice to the developers to abide by the terms and conditions of the service agreements or risk the cancellation of the service agreements.”
The city also urged would-be buyers to tread carefully when looking for stands. “Members of the public must exercise caution when looking for stands to buy as they risk losing their hard-earned cash in case of service agreement cancellations,” Dube said.
Bulawayo residents have been battling land barons and fly-by-night developers who promise serviced stands but leave buyers stranded after pocketing their money.
