DURING the early stages of human evolution, it was very normal for a man to knock a woman unconscious, drag her to a cave and make her his wife.
A Bulawayo man who tried to follow the barbaric blueprint by assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a bid to force her to ‘go home’ with him has ended up behind bars.
Xolani Ndlovu (31) of Mpopoma suburb failed to accept that “it’s over” the mature way and rained blows on Nokubonga Moyo (30) after she refused to go to his home with him, for sex.
He beat her up outside Esibayeni Bar in Matshobane suburb.
Ndlovu appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing physical abuse charges.
He pleaded guilty and was fined US$140 or, failing to pay, will spend two months behind bars.
The court heard that Ndlovu accosted Moyo on 25 April 2026.
According to prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete, Ndlovu followed Moyo and demanded that she accompany him to his place, but she was not interested.
“She refused to go with him and the accused person became violent,” said Dzimbanhete.
The court heard that Ndlovu dragged Moyo, grabbed her by the neck and punched her several times on the head and face.
Moyo later reported the matter to police and sought medical attention for her injuries. Police moved swiftly and arrested Ndlovu, leading to his court appearance.
Magistrate Mr Ncube warned against violence in relationships before sentencing the accused.
