THE Bulawayo Chess League kicked off at Royal Hotel Gardens on Saturday with eight clubs in action.
Bulawayo Chess Club (BCC), National University and Science Technology (Nust), Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe School of Mines, Bulawayo Polytechnic, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and Nkulumane were all in action.
Bulawayo Chess Club masterminds dominated the first day encounter. They won all their games against Nkulumane and Nust.
BCC collected 10.5 game points, with Bulawayo Polytechnic at nine, while ZPC were third after collecting eight points.
Each team comprises of six players.
BCC had veteran Thabang Moyo on board one while Ntokozo Moyo was on second, Moses Mutipforo third, Joe Sibanda fourth, Rafael Dzete fifth and Brighton Duburo sixth.
Bulawayo Chess Association secretary-general Duburo expressed satisfaction with the opening day’s action. “The league started well, it was more than we expected. Since it is the inaugural edition of the league, the attendance was good,” said Duburo.
