TEN-MAN Bulawayo Chiefs FC held on for dear life to force a goalless draw against ZPC Kariba in what turned out to be a drab Castle Lager Premiership match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
The hosts’ troubles began as early as the 20th minute, when Malvin Mkolo walked off the pitch injured and was replaced by Ben Nyahunzvi.
Nyahunzvi was then later red-carded, deep in the second half, giving ZPC Kariba the numerical advantage.
In between, ZPC Kariba almost took the lead in the 28th minute, when Moses Demera skied his effort slightly over the bar after a goalmouth squabble that saw three players nurse a few knocks afterwards.
It was the first near chance for either side during a first half, which had little action in the final third for both teams.
There were a few close calls, here and there, with the most notable coming from ZPC Kariba as Melvin Mukiwa’s shot was blocked by an alert defence in the 33rd minute, and Foster Dhemera hit the upright at the stroke of halftime.
Nyahunzvi was given marching orders in the 67th minute for robbing Demera of a scoring opportunity, with the goalkeeper to beat, but ZPC fluffed the resultant free kick from the edge of the box.
