The Bulawayo Children’s Choir, which continues to cement its reputation as one of the city’s most dynamic young musical ensembles, is set to perform at an event themed “Independence Day” in Bulawayo.
The invitation follows a prolific run for the young ensemble, which has recently captured public attention with its reimagined rendition of Mathias Xavier’s classic “Tormented Soul”, titled “Awu Yeiye (The Refix) – Ode to Our Musical Heroes”.
Beyond the stage, the choir has also distinguished itself through community engagement and social responsibility. The group recently donated shoes, jerseys and clothing to an orphanage in Nkulumane 5, reinforcing its growing reputation not only as a musical force but also as a socially conscious collective.
In addition, the choir has been actively bridging generational gaps in Zimbabwean music through collaborations with established local artistes, while consistently delivering energetic performances that showcase the exceptional vocal talent of Bulawayo’s youth.
Organisers of the event said the inclusion of young performers reflects the importance of amplifying youth voices in national commemorations.
“We’re excited to showcase the kids’ talents and share in the joy of Zimbabwe’s independence,” the organisers said.
Choir director Trevor Mawaka said: “We’re absolutely thrilled! This is a fantastic opportunity for our kids to showcase their talents and be part of a significant event.”
The performance comes shortly after the choir released visuals for “Dance Away My Sorrows”, featuring DJ Jabs and starring Creative Culxure. Serving as a bridge between generations, the 15 young ambassadors are expected to revive the spirit of 1980 through performance, while carrying forward the energy of a city firmly focused on its future.
