FOUR Bulawayo-based rugby clubs Old Miltonians, Bulldogs, Highlanders and Matabeleland Warriors are on Saturday set to take part in a National Rugby League (NRL) pre-season tournament that will be played at Hartsfield Ground.

The NRL, which will feature six teams, will resume on 16 March and Matabeleland Warriors and Old Miltonians will be the City of Kings and Queens representatives.

“The Saturday tournament will see Highlanders and Bulldogs help out Matabeleland Warriors and Old Miltonians prepare for the NRL. The first game of the Saturday contest will start at 2.30pm and the second match will be played at 4pm,” said Bulawayo Metropolitan Football Board spokesperson Simbarashe Dangah.

He said Highlanders and Bulldogs will play in the Mid Matabeleland League — second tier-where they will compete with Gweru Sports Club and Hwange Diggers among other esteemed outfits.

“As they await promotion into the National Rugby League, Highlanders and Bulldogs will play in the Mid Matabeleland League with clubs from Gweru and Hwange. If costs allow, we are also looking forward to having clubs from Masvingo joining this parallel league,” said Dangah.
