BULAWAYO Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu and two other accused persons have arrived at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court for their initial appearance in a case in which they are accused of extorting US$52 000 from a local businessman.
Cllr Ndlovu is jointly accused with Ward 28 councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu and former Ward 22 councillor Rodney Jele.
The trio was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) over allegations that they extorted the money from the businessman.
The three arrived at the court this morning as the State prepares to outline the allegations against them.
Cllr Ndlovu’s arrest comes barely a year after he was acquitted in a high-profile corruption case, in which he had faced allegations linked to his role as a councillor.
The latest case has attracted significant attention given the senior positions held by the accused within the Bulawayo City Council.
