BULAWAYO DJs have promised to release singles during the year after pressure from established international artistes, especially those from South Africa who play their own tracks in night spots instead of other DJs’.In separate interviews, local DJs said they wanted to tell their own story and service the market they already have.
Tribal house group, Djembe Monks member DJ Black Cee said they would drop a track with Otis Ngwabi.
“Next week we will release a track with Otis Ngwabi titled Ingxabano. We have another one titled Moina; these two will be released next week,” he said.
Black Cee said they would release another single in August which would feature West African artistes.
“As Djembe Monks, we are working on a big project that I can’t give more details on right now. We are working with West African musicians. Our sound of tribal house goes along with their style of music, so in August the track will be out,” he said.
DJ Mzoe said he was also hard at work in the studio working on a single to be released in June. He said by the end of the year, he would have released another track.
“I am in the studio working with someone called M5 on a single Lapho, which is a house track. This single will be released in June,” said Mzoe.
He said challenges of equipment and finance were deterring them from pursuing music as a career.
“We don’t have the resources to really get into music and the right people to work with. However, we are slowly getting there. Our focus is to release tracks which we will play during our sets in clubs,” said Mzoe.
Veteran DJ, Joe the OG concurred saying: “I have been getting pressure from friends saying that I have been letting them down by not producing a track. I have decided to make a track this year,” he said.
Joe said the track would be an easy going dance track that would be released in August.
