THE City of Kings Dreamstar finalists have expressed their hopes of scooping the $3 000 price at this year’s Zimbabwe Dreamstar finals to be held at the Harare International Conference Centre on 7 October.
The semi-finals are scheduled to take centre stage on 16 September at Longcheng Plaza at Belvedere in Harare.
One of the Bulawayo dance crew finalists, Salt and Light Chronicles Dance Crew member Tichaona Chikara said the group was grateful that Dreamstar had created a lifetime opportunity for aspiring artistes to have a breakthrough to the arts industry in Zimbabwe.
“Salt and Light is humbled to be part of the contestants to represent Bulawayo at this year’s Dreamstar finals. The group’s aim is to win the overall price and win that trip to China,” she said.
There are also three exhilarating Bulawayo dance crews besides the Salt and Light Chronicles dance crew namely the Super Geeks and Abogeneral dance crews that are set to explode the Harare International Conference Centre.
In the music section, Bulawayo will be represented by two scintillating music groups called the Divine Family and X2, and five breathtaking solo singers namely Prosper Mapurisa, Nyasha Bothwell, Mshana, Leige Trizzy and Nicole Manzungu.
The marketing executive and spokesperson for Dreamstar Tinashe Kitchen said contestants faced a stiff competition since this year’s Dreamstar’s finalists seemed to be determined to win the top price.
“The preparations for the semi-finals and the finale are at an advanced stage. The finals will consist of 10-15 acts from Masvingo, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, and Harare. The finalists are very much ready to make everyone who will attend the finals witness something special,” he said.
This year’s competition will be great as Dreamstar expanded its search for talent to Zimbabwe universities namely Midlands State University, University of Zimbabwe and Chinhoyi University of Technology.
Ten lucky talented contestants are expected to be selected from each university to compete at Dreamstar finals.
Kitchen said thousands of people were expected to fill up the Harare International Conference Centre as Zimbabwe’s Dreamstar was one of the greatest and popular talent search since it invited renowned artistes and also provided a life changing price for the contestants.
“5 000 people are expected to attend Dreamstar finals. The finale will invite a star studded line-up of artistes to wow the crowds like Ba’Shupi, Cindy Munyavi, Trevor Dongo, Dobba Don, Killer T, Takura, Leonard Mapfumo and Sandra Ndebele who dazzled the stage in last year’s addition,”
The winner of the competition will walk away with $3 000, an adventurous trip to China, academic scholarships to study in China and a recording contract with JCMC Studios in Harare.
