Bulawayo endorses President’s candidature

The decision comes at a time when the revolutionary movement is preparing to hold its 12th Annual National People’s Conference next week.
More than 6 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference which will run from 6 to 9 December at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds in Bulawayo.

Presenting the provincial report during a meeting at the party’s provincial offices at Davies Hall, Zanu-PF deputy provincial chairman Cde Killian Sibanda, said the province had confidence in President Mugabe’s leadership.
“Bulawayo province cherishes the wisdom and leadership of His Excellency President Robert Mugabe. He has spent his life and           years trying to eradicate poverty and reverse the colonial          injustices.

“As a province we have resolved that President Mugabe be endorsed as our presidential candidate in the next election,” said Cde Sibanda amid thunderous applause and ululation from the party members.

The women and youth leagues and other affiliate organisations such as war veterans, ex-political prisoners, detainees, restrictees and war collaborators, took turns to second the resolution.

Matabeleland South, the Midlands, Matabeleland North, Harare and Masvingo provinces have already endorsed President Mugabe as the candidate in the next election.

Meanwhile, progress reports on the preparations for the conference were made with subcommittee leaders expressing satisfaction with the work done so far.
A report was also given about the Presidential Input Scheme towards the farming season.

In an interview after the meeting, the provincial chairman, Cde Isaac Dakamela, said President Mugabe was the only candidate with the requisite leadership skills for the country.
On the preparations for the conference Cde Dakamela said everything had been finalised.

“Everything has been done but we will wind our preparations on Wednesday. What is left is the allocation of accommodation to delegates, which would be done by the national coordinating committee.
“We are also finalising the collection of pledges from our members. We have done accreditation and only a few people are left.”

This year’s conference will run under the theme “Defending national sovereignty consolidating indigenisation and economic empowerment”.
