As the year winds down and the festive season takes centre stage, Bulawayo is warming up for a December filled with non-stop entertainment. From gospel to house, hip-hop to Amapiano, the City of Kings is once again proving why December here is more than just a holiday; it is a lifestyle.

The festive buzz has already taken hold, with early December setting the pace for what promises to be a memorable run-up to year-end. The opening weekend lit up the nightlife scene with the Varsity Tour Crush Party, where prominent Afro-pop and Hip-hop musician Bagga headlined alongside some of Bulawayo’s finest DJs.

On Sunday, December 7, the mood shifted to a laid-back but equally vibrant vibe as The Mix and The Menu, a night of music and food, was hosted by Bryce DJ Klasiq. The DJ delivered an afternoon groove that struck the perfect balance between chill and celebration. Brze and Bongz Deeper added extra flavour, making it a Sunday session to remember.

The tempo rose on December 12 when Bulawayo welcomed prominent South African Afro-house musician, Sun-El Musician, for his second performance in the city since 2022. The same weekend also catered to gospel lovers, as Harvest Music hosted a live recording of their new project Hlala Nami, alongside the ever-popular Clash of Choirs.

The focus now shifts to a day that officially ushers Bulawayo into full festive mode. The Bulawayo Amphitheatre will host the annual Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks display on Thursday, December 19, from 6.30PM. The dazzling lights are expected to transform the Amphitheatre and its surrounding park into a magical spectacle, creating picture-perfect moments for families and friends.

Later that evening, the city’s nightlife heats up further as South African 3-step and Afro-tech heavyweights Jazzworx and Thukuthela return for The Homecoming event at a local nightspot, fresh from rocking crowds at the Hinde house music event.

The same night will also see the inaugural Byo Music Fiesta at a city hotel, showcasing local talent including Fab G Mshanakagogo, Insimbi ZeZhwane, and Black Diva, a clear nod to homegrown sounds this festive season.

December 20, brings another milestone as veteran wheel spinner Joe Da OG celebrates his 50th birthday in style at a city nightspot, promising a night of nostalgia and high-energy mixes.

The celebrations roll into December 21 with a packed entertainment menu. Amapiano sensation Sir Trill, popularly known as The Ghost, will headline a show in Luveve, while the queen of private school Amapiano, Babalwa M, is set to deliver a premium festive treat with a VIP and VVIP performance at a city nightspot.

Christmas Eve promises one of the season’s most anticipated gatherings as the Garden of House stages its iconic All White Party. With some ticket tiers already sold out, the event has firmly cemented itself as one of Bulawayo and Zimbabwe’s leading house music experiences.

The festive heat peaks on December 27 with the Bulawayo Shutdown, headlined by Winky D alongside South African stars KO and Young Stunna. The stacked line-up also features local favourites and rising stars, including Mzoe7, Metty Intomb’emfitshane, Noluntu J, Fab G Mshanakagogo, Bhila, Ma9nine, Insimbi ZeZhwane, Silent Killer, Jnr Spragga, Hulengende, Chillmaster and Ngwere Diki.

Wrapping up the month on a high note, December 28 will see celebrated deck master Nizhe De Soul return with Nizhe De Soul and Friends. This year’s edition takes on a fresh twist as a beach party.

December in Bulawayo is clearly not a time to stay indoors. With a packed calendar, rising energy and a blend of local and international acts, the city is primed to deliver a festive season filled with music, magic and memories to last well into the new year.
