An Inter Africa bus accident on Saturday claimed two lives and left several others injured.
The bus, travelling from Mutare to Bulawayo, veered off the road and overturned at Umguza Bridge along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Highway, on the outskirts of the city.
The Bulawayo Fire Brigade rescued three passengers trapped inside the bus. Mhlangano Moyo, the chief fire officer, reported that the bus was carrying 50 passengers, with 43 sustaining injuries.
The injured were rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.
In response to the rising concern over road safety, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development announced a meeting between Zimbabwean and South African officials this week.
This initiative aims to address the increase in fatal cross-border bus accidents and improve the management of dangerous goods transport.
The discussions will occur from Thursday to the following Monday, focusing on strategies to enhance safety measures for travelers on both sides of the border.
The community continues to mourn the tragic loss of life while hoping for improved road safety. (The Herald)
