THE stage is set, the battle lines have been drawn and Zimbabwe’s brightest young football talent is ready to light up the country as the highly anticipated BancABC Roots Impact tournament explodes into action this weekend.

Bulawayo’s football faithful are in for a treat as White City Stadium and Crescent Sports Club host a mouth-watering southern region showdown featuring Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Midlands.

Hosts Bulawayo open their campaign against neighbours Matabeleland North, while Matabeleland South battle Midlands in another high-stakes encounter. Sunday’s fixtures promise even more drama as Matabeleland South tackle Matabeleland North before Bulawayo face Midlands in a clash that could send shockwaves through the competition.

From the bustling streets of Harare to the football-crazy city of Bulawayo and the heartland of Masvingo, provincial pride will be on the line as teams clash in what promises to be a thrilling opening weekend of football fireworks.

With scouts, coaches and passionate supporters expected to flock to the venues, every tackle, every goal and every moment of magic could prove decisive in the race for Roots Impact glory.

In Harare, the historic Prince Edward School will become a battlefield as hosts Harare square off against Mashonaland West in a blockbuster opening encounter on Saturday morning. Later in the day, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central will renew their rivalry in another potentially explosive affair.

The action only intensifies on Sunday when Mashonaland West face Mashonaland East before Harare lock horns with Mashonaland Central in what could prove to be one of the standout clashes of the opening weekend.

Down in Masvingo, all eyes will be on Victoria High School where hosts Masvingo welcome Manicaland in a fixture expected to produce plenty of passion, intensity and football brilliance.

With all age groups set to play concurrently, organisers are expecting a festival atmosphere as Zimbabwe’s next generation of football stars seize their opportunity to shine.

One thing is certain, when the whistle blows this weekend, there will be no hiding place. Provincial bragging rights, prestige, early tournament are all up for grabs. – @FungaiMuderere.
