Bulawayo hosts computer winter school

THE Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) is scheduled to hold its four-day 2022 Winter School in Bulawayo, the first in-person session since the advent of Covid-19 pandemic.

The winter school programme would be held under the theme: “Navigating the Digital World Securely” from 29 June to 2 July with about 100 participants set to attend.

CSZ Bulawayo Chapter chairman, Mr Percy Sibanda, yesterday said participants would be trained on how to navigate the digital world in a secure manner having in mind Covid-19 which made people work remotely.

“It’s an annual event in the CSZ calendar.

It’s in person. Due to travel restrictions and uncertainty, we don’t have any international speakers even though this is the norm.

However, we have lined up the best internationally acclaimed facilitators,” said Mr Sibanda.

According to the programme schedule, facilitators include Mr Simbai Nyamayauta, Baker Tilly Digital Forensics and Assurance Manager, Cade Zvavanjanja, Cyber Forensic Partner at Baker Tilly and Charmaine Matsaudza, Robotics Automation and Emerging Technologies manager at NMB.

“The importance of winter school is that it is a capacity building programme that brings the great minds of ICT under one roof,” said Mr Sibanda.

“The delegates can utilise this platform to network, to broaden the delegates knowledge of information systems security best practices and modern security tools.

“The delegates should utilise this platform because it will offer them hands-on learning and practical insights on Cyber security Digital Forensics and Robotic Process Automation and also offers delegates an opportunity for level networking and experience transfer,” he said.

Mr Sibanda said about 100 participants are expected and the number might increase.

CSZ is an internationally recognised professional body for Zimbabwe’s community of ICT professionals.

It was founded in 1974 with an objective of benefiting the Computer Industry and all people who work in it.

The developments in the Information Technology Industry over the last two decades have meant that the CSZ has had to examine and update its position in the light of these developments.
