THE Bulawayo Legends a�� a team that consists of yesterday football greats among them former Highlanders, Amazulu and Railstars players a�� has confirmed participation as curtain raisers at the Jonah Football Tournament in Plumtree on Christmas Day.
The R20 000 eight-team tourney is bankrolled by South Africa-based businessman Jonathan Ndlovu.
The Bulawayo Legends will curtain raise against the Plumtree Legends before the final match of the tournament.
But apart from playing a curtain raiser match the Bulawayo Legends players, a majority of them who are now coaches at different clubs in the city, will be scouting for talent from the local teams that will battle it out for honours.
Johannes Ngodzo, the Zifa Southern Region champions Bantu Rovers coach, whose club could playing in the Premier Soccer League next season will be among the gaffers monitoring the tournament players closely.
Joel Luphahla, a former Warriors winger, and Ronald Sibanda who now coaches a Division Two club based in Bulawayoa��s Lobengula suburb are part of the travelling team.
a�?A majority of our players who are also involved in coaching with various teams in Bulawayo have confirmed that they will be travelling to Plumtree not only to play in a curtain raiser match but to scout for talent at the invitation of the tournament organisers,a�? said Bulawayo Legends organising secretary Herbert Dick.
The participating teams from Plumtree are Kombani FC, Nyabane A, Nyabane B, Hlangulani, Plumtree Chiefs, Bangani, Manda and Marula.
The winners with walk away with prize money and medals as well individual prizes for player of the tournament, top goal scorer, goalkeeper of the tournament and the most disciplined player.
Entertainment will be provided by popular musician Clement Magwaza.
