A local software developer, Mr Busani Moyo, has launched a new school management system designed to streamline school fee payments and improve communication between schools and parents.
The system, known as the Portway School Management System, operates via WhatsApp and is aimed at enhancing convenience and efficiency in the education sector.
Speaking to this reporter, Mr Moyo said the platform enables parents to make secure online payments from their homes, eliminating the need to queue at banks or visit schools in person.
“I specifically developed it with Zimbabwe in mind, but it can be used by any other African country after a few tweaks,” said the 39-year-old.
In addition to facilitating fee payments, the system allows schools to track student attendance, generate academic reports, and communicate directly with parents. Moyo said the initiative is part of his broader goal to use technology to address practical challenges in education.
The launch of the system aligns with government efforts to promote innovation and digital transformation in the education sector.
While the system is still in its early stages, Moyo expressed optimism about its potential to be adopted widely across Zimbabwe and beyond.
