A 68-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly fondling a 10-year-old child and kissing her.

Ransom Mashava of Nketa 9 suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga, facing charges of indecent assault. He was remanded in custody until September 15.

The prosecutor, Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe, told the court that the incident occurred on August 25.

“On that particular day at around midday, the accused person met the complainant and asked to fondle her breasts, but she refused. The accused then sent the girl to the shops to buy drinks,” she said.

The court heard that on her way back from the shops, the complainant met Mashava and walked with him for a short distance. When she handed over the drinks, the accused allegedly grabbed her, fondled her breasts, and kissed her.

He also threatened to assault her if she reported the incident. The two then parted ways.

The complainant immediately phoned her mother, who is in South Africa. A report was made to the police, leading to Mashava’s arrest.
