Chicken Inn plunges toward relegation after MWOS defeat

CHICKEN INN’S fight for survival has taken centre stage after their 2-1 defeat to MWOS left them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Once considered a stable mid-table side, the Gamecocks now sit 12th on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log with just 30 points — only two more than Dynamos, who are languishing in 17th. The margin is slim enough to turn their run-in into a full-blown battle for survival.

Winger Walter Vuwa, one of the few bright sparks in recent weeks, believes the team has no choice but to fight harder.

“We are in a precarious position where we can’t afford to drop points,” Vuwa said. “We’ve told ourselves not to give up and to continue fighting. We aim to win all our games, but sometimes it doesn’t go our way.”

Their next fixture, against basement side Kwekwe United — who have collected only ten points from 27 outings — could prove season-defining. Anything short of victory will drag Chicken Inn even closer to the drop zone.

The international break has provided a timely pause for the team to reset and refocus. Vuwa sees it as a chance to sharpen both body and mind.

“It gives us a split moment to recharge and work again so we can unleash the best of ourselves,” he said.

On a personal level, the winger is relishing his form at this critical stage of the season.

“Of late, I’ve been enjoying my game and regained full fitness,” Vuwa said.

“I’m grateful to the coaches who have made it possible. I just want to keep on this same trajectory.”

The league table remains dangerously tight, with Triangle United in 10th on 31 points and barely separated from Dynamos in 17th. Every game from here on has become a fight for survival.
