Bulawayo model eyes Miss Curvy Zim crown

Eighteen-year-old Bulawayo model, Ntando Khumalo, is eyeing the Miss Curvy Zimbabwe crown.

The contest, similar to Miss Big will be held on December 21 in Harare with Khumalo upbeat about participating in the event.

Born in South Africa, but raised in Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb, Khumalo said should she win, she would empower herself enough to inspire other women.

“I’m a different being from the average human being because I can take a challenge and turn it into a great project. I take an obstacle and make it the greatest course.

“I know that women take after what they see in other women, be it fashion, the way they do their hair or the way they behave. If I’m crowned queen, I’m confident that I’ll be able to motivate other women to be whatever they want to be,” said Khumalo.

Studying the science of cosmetics at Bulawayo Polytechnic, Khumalo started modelling at a tender age as she was crowned Miss Pretty Face at Senzangakhona Primary school when she was in Grade Five.

This year, she was crowned Miss Curvy Nust (although not related to Miss Curvy Zimbabwe), second princess.

A product of former beauty queen, Samantha Tshuma’s, Open Eye Modelling Agency, Khumalo said she wanted to show people that plus size people can also venture into modelling.

She said:
“People think that a model is a slim girl, but that’s not the case as curvy women also model and are good at it. Being part of Samantha’s modelling agency boosted my confidence as I’ve always been interested in showing that beautiful side (curvy) of women to the world.”

She said she joined the modelling agency early this year under the mentorship of Samantha and has been engaging the community through empowering curvy women.

“At the end of the day, I want to be able to inspire young girls who think their bodies aren’t beautiful so that they gain confidence,” she said.
