BULAWAYO POLICE: SAFE STREETS CORNER

Three recent tragedies in Bulawayo carry one powerful lesson: violence solves nothing.

A man died after a drinking dispute allegedly ended with a single slap. Another lost his life after being brutally assaulted by vigilantes accusing him of theft.

Police are also investigating the murder of an unidentified man found stabbed to death in Old Magwegwe.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele says these incidents should remind communities that anger, revenge and mob justice only lead to grief, arrests and shattered families.

“Never take the law into your own hands. If you suspect someone of committing a crime, report the matter to the police. Violence is not justice, and a moment of anger can leave a lifetime of regret,” she said.

Inspector Msebele also urged people to walk away from heated arguments, particularly where alcohol is involved, as small disagreements can quickly turn fatal.

She appealed to residents to assist police in identifying the unknown murder victim and to provide information that could lead to the arrest of offenders still on the run.

Parents, community leaders and neighbours should also promote peaceful conflict resolution and discourage young people from joining violent attacks.

Protect life. Report crime. Reject mob justice.
