ALL is set for this year’s Bulawayo Provincial Independence Day celebrations, with final preparations now at an advanced stage ahead of the main event to be held at White City Stadium.
Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Judith Ncube, is expected to read the President’s speech at the event, which is set to bring together residents from across the province in celebration of the country’s independence.
This year’s Uhuru celebrations will be held under the theme: “Zim@46 – Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030”, which is both reflective and forward-looking, deliberately linking the liberation legacy to Zimbabwe’s contemporary development ambitions.
President Mnangagwa will lead the national commemorations with a keynote address in Maphisa, Matobo District in Matabeleland South.
One of the highlights of the day in Bulawayo will be a football match featuring Chicken Inn FC and Bulawayo Chiefs FC, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Bulawayo provincial information officer, Mr Gration Mahachi, said preparations were progressing well, with stakeholders working around the clock to ensure a successful event.
“We are now putting final touches to the preparations and everything is in place for the celebrations. Various stakeholders have come on board and we are confident of a successful event,” he said.
“Transport will be availed to take people to the stadium from the usual pick up points. There will entertainment by local groups and learners.
“The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution will read the Presidential speech.”
Mr Mahachi urged residents to attend the celebrations in large numbers, saying the day presents an opportunity for communities to come together and reflect on the country’s journey.
“We encourage people from across the province to come in their numbers and be part of this important national event as we celebrate our independence and unity as a nation,” he said.
The annual event is expected to be marked by various activities celebrating the country’s liberation history, unity and continued development.
