BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province might not have a women’s football team at this year’s Zimbabwe National Youth Games set for Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West, from August 13. The province is struggling with resources. Sources in the province said the ladies’ team has been seen as sacrificial lambs even though a final decision will be announced on Wednesday. Sports and Recreation Commission provincial sports coordination Sam Dzvimbu could neither confirm nor deny the developments yesterday.
“We shall be making a statement on Wednesday. At the moment we can’t say with certainty which sport code will be affected but what I can confirm is that we are having challenges with resources,” said Dzvimbu.
The province set a budget of $80 000 for the Games and Bulawayo is one of the three provinces that have paid part of their affiliation fees to the host province. The team is expected to go into camp tomorrow to intensify their preparations for the annual games that will be officially opened by the First Lady Dr Amai Grace Mugabe.
