BULAWAYO Progressive Residents Association (BUPRA) has launched a service delivery dashboard which is set to measure the efficiency and responsiveness of service providers.
BPRA programmes manager, Claude Phuthi said the dashboard was meant to promote transparency and efficiency in service delivery.
“The Service Delivery Monitoring dashboard is a database which one can use to get an overview of the state of service delivery in the city. The data is collected through ward based community monitors. These monitors feed data into the electronic system and it undergoes a verification process and once verified, it is uploaded to the dashboard,” he said.
Phuthi indicated that the data uploaded in the dashboard entails information on key service delivery issues.
“The dashboard covers issues like water, sanitation and hygiene (wash), environmental management and access to health care. This information is available for residents and various stakeholders.
The information can be used to inform policies, measure efficiency and responsiveness of service providers,” he said.
He highlighted that their motivation has been to use technology to improve service delivery.
“As BPRA, we believe in evidence-based advocacy and being proactive in addressing issues affecting residents and ratepayers. Hence, this was a necessity to get a basic overview of the state of service delivery and level of human rights violations within our city.
“We decided to use our ward structures across the 29 wards in Bulawayo and also leverage on technology and this led to the designing and launching of the dashboard,” he said.
He indicated that the reception from the different stakeholders has been impressive.
“The reception has been impressive and this is evidenced by the number of reports that we receive weekly. However, the dashboard is still new and the residents are still comprehending it and there is still some resistance from some residents in verifying some information,” he said.
