Bulawayo schools clash in rugby tourney

Sports Reporter
TWELVE Bulawayo primary schools will this morning compete in the monthly Fawcett Security sponsored Tag Rugby at Hartsfield Stadium. Baines Junior won last month’s edition of the grassroots competition and will be hoping to defend their title against Ntabeni, Manyewu, Zulukandaba, Mthombowesizwe, Helemu, Mahlabezulu, Mahlathini, Tategulu, Mbizo, SOS and Inkanyezi.

Matabeleland Rugby Football Board development officer, George “Rollo” Mukorera said the initiative was part of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union development programme.

“Since the beginning of the year coaches from MRFB have been going to schools as part of this development programme. Every month we have been having these competitions and as we approach the end of the year we will give a feedback to our sponsors who are keen on seeing every child play rugby,” said Mukorera.

The Fawcett Security programme is similar to the one that ZRU and Old Mutual are running countrywide.
