Bulawayo security guard guns down wife

A MAN who was employed by a local security company is on the run after he allegedly shot his wife dead over a yet-to-be-known domestic issue.

Sources said Oscar Khumalo from Pumula North suburb in Bulawayo was involved in a fierce argument with his now-deceased wife Khangelani Nkiwane at their rented home. While their landlady Hotsi Nkomo (57) was sleeping in her bedroom at around 4 30pm yesterday she heard them quarrelling and soon after that, the late Nkiwane stormed into her bedroom.

“She was agitated and told Nkomo that her husband was threatening to kill her and was very terrified because Khumalo was armed with a pistol. She hid in her bedroom while Nkomo rushed to caution him,” said the source.

Things turned for the worse as an angry Khumulo allegedly threatened to gun her down, prompting Nkomo to dash to the kitchen and lock the doors. Khumalo, the source said, tried to open the door but failed and smashed a bedroom window before firing shots at his wife.

“After smashing the bedroom window where his wife was hiding Khumalo shot at his wife injuring her on the back and hand. She fell to the ground and bled profusely,” said the source.

After that, Khumalo fled and is yet to be arrested. Nkiwane was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where she died today shortly after midnight. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“Abuse of service arms is regrettable. A life has been lost because of a man who failed to amicably solve a domestic issue. We urge members of the public, men in particular to find better ways of solving problems rather than resorting to killing,” he said.

Police are appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of Khumalo.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the accused can contact any nearest police station,” he said.
