IN A DEVASTATING incident, a Brethren Christ Church run Matopo High School’s boy’s dormitory was ravaged by fire which reduced trunks, blankets, clothes and food stuffs to ashes and debris.
The incident happened in the early hours on Friday and was reported to the police and Firebrigade who are working tirelessly to establish the cause of the fire.

The Brethren church of Christ run boarding school in Matabeleland South Province said in a media statement : “THe fire broke out in the boys dormitory which houses 52 learners, resulting in the complete destruction of property that included 52 trucks, 52 beds, uniforms and clothes ,foodstuffs and books.”
All the 52 occupants of the dormitory managed to escape unhurt.
“All the 52 boys who were staying in the dormitory managed to escape unhurt and we would like to thank God for His grace,” read the statement.
The school said they are currently working on measures to prevent such an incident in the future.

“The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority, once we are furnished with information about the cause of the fire we would work on measures to prevent such incidents,” said the media statement.
Parents and guardians were left in panic mode as they feared for the safety of the children and where they will be accommodated. However, sources said the school had alternative accomodation for the affected children
