THE fourth edition of the Bulawayo Sneaker Expo, held on Saturday at the ZIEC Pavilion, has garnered widespread acclaim from both new and perennial attendees as well as exhibitors.
This year’s event showcased the vibrant sneaker culture in Zimbabwe, bringing together sneaker enthusiasts, foodies, lifestyle brands, and fashion aficionados for a day filled with style and community spirit.

Having postponed this year’s edition, organisers feared rains dampening the mood and having a negative effect on the attendance but sneaker-heads pulled up in numbers to showcase their kicks.
Attendees were treated to a feast for the senses, with eye-catching displays, live music, and engaging activities that celebrated the sneaker lifestyle.

Since its inception, the Bulawayo Sneaker Expo has been home to some brands including Stars29, City of Kings Apparel, Hatipfeke Junk from Harare, Shoe Guru Laundry from Harare, Mtshana Outlets, South City Streetwear, Juluka, and artists such as Lorenzo, LuluBoy, and Picasso Leon.

Exhibitors praised the organisers for their meticulous planning and execution of the event.
“This year has been exceptional. The atmosphere was electric, and the turnout exceeded our expectations. The organisers have truly outdone themselves, creating a platform that not only promotes our brands but also fosters a sense of community among sneaker lovers,” said Curtly Gwindi, who is the brand ambassador for Shoe Guru Laundry Zimbabwe.
“This is our third year exhibiting at the Bulawayo Sneaker Expo all the way from Harare. This tells you about the great relationship we have with the organisers who have given us a platform to grow our customer base.”
True to its motto, “Life isn’t perfect but your sneakers can be!” attendees understood the assignment as they flocked to different stalls to have their shoes cleaned while they waited, perfecting their look.

To lighten the mood even more, a raffle draw saw lucky attendees walking away with pairs of sneakers. The expo featured both local and international brands, providing a unique opportunity for emerging designers and established names to connect with a wider audience. Many exhibitors reported strong sales and valuable networking opportunities throughout the day.

Business was not the only thing on the table but entertainment and self expression through fashion were too.
“The Bulawayo Sneaker Expo has become a cornerstone of the sneaker culture in Zimbabwe. This is my first time attending the Bulawayo Sneaker Expo and I’ve seen that this wasn’t just social media hype, but rather a true reflection of the dedication to sneaker culture.
“It’s not just about selling shoes; it’s about celebrating creativity and self-expression through fashion. I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” noted an attendee who said it was his first time to be a part of the expo.
What is an expo without food and music? Attendees enjoyed music from an array of wheel spinners who kept the festive mood alive. The DJs included Kotwane Hikwa, DJ Nospa, and DJ Eugy.
With its growing popularity and positive reception, the Bulawayo Sneaker Expo is set to remain a vital platform for sneaker enthusiasts and a celebration of style in the heart of Bulawayo.
Established in 2021, the expo has seen sneaker heads converge at different venues to celebrate the kicks culture. With a diverse array of exhibitors showcasing the latest trends in sneakers and streetwear, the expo has firmly established itself as a must-attend event on the Bulawayo calendar. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
