BULAWAYO clubs Crusaders and Penguins will take part in the Mutare Swimming Gala which begins tonight. The teams are set to travel this morning for the two-day event.Crusaders and Penguins are set to clash with the country’s top swimming clubs who are expected to participate in the gala.
Matabeleland Amateur Swimming Board chairman Eddie Cyprianos, in an interview yesterday, confirmed that the teams will be travelling to Mutare.
“We are leaving early tomorrow morning (today), as the tournament starts in the evening,” said Cyprianos.
Crusaders and Penguins will be sending 14 swimmers each, among the travelling teams will be Josh Mackonie from SOS who is independent.
Cyprianos said they expect to win a number of medals because the teams are performing well and have had good preparations.
“We did well last year with all the swimmers giving their best, we are looking for a better performance this time around,” he said.
Penguin swimmer and Christian Brothers College record holder in the 50m backstroke and butterfly category Andresious Cyprianos is tipped to shine at the gala.
Other promising swimmers travelling are McAllister sisters Courtney and Jessica, Grant Smith, Avalon Bruce and Georgina Roberts.
Cyprianos said the 50m backstroke and butterfly will be the first events tonight.
